In a world where remakes are a dime a dozen, and quite frankly most are worth less than a dime, we get a new one spawned (pun intended) on us today. The cult classic Spawn, one of my favorite black comic book characters growing up aside from Blade, seems to be en route to getting a silver screen re-adaptation.
According to comicbook.com, “Todd McFarlane is going full steam ahead on a new Spawn movie, but it's going to be very different from any interpretation of the character seen before. In an exclusive interview with ComicBook.com at Toy Fair New York, McFarlane revealed his new take on the film. He has finished the screenplay, and is currently editing it down before shopping it around Hollywood.”
Todd McFarlane has promised fans that the movie will be “a hard R” but it won’t be a superhero or action movie. "I'd put it more into horror/suspense/supernatural genre," McFarlane told ComicBook. "If you take the movie The Departed meets Paranormal Activity, something like that."
Over time, the 1997 movie has been critically panned with scores of 19 % (Rotten Tomatoes) and 5.2/10 (IMDb). After almost 20 years, we might soon be getting an out of this world…literally, and up to date version of Spawn that is sure to get the big screen treatment it deserves.
Thank you Todd McFarlane.
Signed,
T.O.
